The Cover

Study the Night book cover.  What are things that you notice about the art, words (actual words, fonts, colors, size) and colors on the cover.  What does this tell you about the book or what ideas do you have about the book because of the cover?

  1. I notice a few different things about the Night book cover. First of all, there are only two colors, black and blue, which make me think of a bruise, or pain in general. The title and authors name are in a large, simple print, and the art is very creepy and sort of unclear. The fact that it's unclear makes me think the characters are going to be confused why what is happening to them is happening, and the creepy art makes sense because the book is about the Holocaust.

  2. On the cover it looks like there is barbwire and a man that looks bummy. The barbwire makes me think that people are being held forcfully in a place, by fencing or other things. But usually barbewire is used for animals not people unless its jail or something. I also noticed that has a thing saying that the book won a noble peace prize award. That means that the book is probably well know and a decent book. TW

  3. When I look at the cover of the book I can see very dark things about it. I notice that the colors are black blue and white which tells me its a very sad but hopeful book. From what I see from the cover theres barbed wire and person who looks like a prisoner from a concentration camp. This book seems its going to be about a Jewish prisoner who makes a escape plan to free his people. T.C.

  4. I agree with TC
After looking at the cover i noticed barb wire, a person, and the color blue. The barb wire makes me think that this person is trapped and being held in some kind of camp. The color blue makes me think of late night or daytime. Maybe this person trys to escape at night? Maybe this person was part of the holocaust? It could be like a life story like the one we watched in class?
This book looks very interesting. I like the name night it's very intruiging to me, beacause I love the night. Looking forward to reading this book :)!

  5. Just from looking at the cover I can see maybe that the book takes place in the winter, were there is snow everywere and its cold. Also I can see that the person is surounded by barbed wire, maybe this person is trapped and can't get out. But usually when you see bardeb wire you think of a jail or an animal fence. The lettering is bold and kind of boring. I would say there almost like there just there to be there like there not so important.

  6. To me, I think that the cover looks rather depressing.. It looks interesting but the man in it looks like he is longing to find a way out of where ever he is, whether it be a concentration camp or whatever it may be.. He looks like he feels as though he is trapped and wants to find a way out but know's he can't. the fonts are obviously different, with different color and size, maybe it is standing for something with the book. To me, it looks like a rather good book, although very upsetting and terrifying.

  7. After looking at the cover for a while, a few things have really stuck out to me. One of them being the colors which are used. The colors used are black, blue and white. Which makes me think of coldness and a depression. So there is a possibility this story takes place in somewhere which is cold or during the winter. I also see on the cover how the font is at an unusual large size. I think that might mean that this is an important story and they really wanted it to stand out to the readers. The barbed wire on this cover makes me believe that the figure in the background (which I believe is a man) is trapped or stuck somewhere. It looks as if he's gazing off beyond the barbed wire and he's dreaming of leaving. Kind of like in The House On Mango Street, where all the older women felt trapped and would be starring out their windows, this man his staring out beyond the fenced in area.

  8. After studying and taking a close look at the cover of the book "Night" by Elie Wiesel, I have come to a few conclusions. First, there are only 3 colors used- blue, black, and white. It seems very dark, and creepy. But, the white sort of makes it seem like there could be hope in the end after all. The art work is all black, with blue in the back round. It also looks as if there is wire, showing that the person behind them is trapped and cannot get out. Another thing that I noticed about this book is that it won an award, which means that this book is going to be pretty good.

  9. On the cover it looks like there is barbe wire. It makes me think that the figure is some sort of prisoner. The colors make me think that it's cold and dark. Also I don't think that the prisoner is trying to escape because of the way he stands. But he could be? Overall this book looks depressing and sad to me.B.T.

  10. This book looks mysterious with the colors. It looks like there is violence and death in it because of the barbed wires. The title and the author stand out but the noble peace prize doesn't which makes it look like they didn't want to show it off or brag it.

  11. I agree with D to the D. but also id like to add that it looks like the person is looking out of the barbed wire like he is thinking about being on the other side. I like how they use the barb wire, because it gives you more of the feel of the dark scary feeling compared to if it was just a fence or a wall. The simple font makes me feel like the book isn't a happy book and it doesn't draw away attention of the main picture.

  12. The colors of this book are bright blue and white, which shows hope, but also black that blends in with the barbed wire, that gives a sense of fright. The man looks like he is behind the wire and the fence, as if he is trapped. The title could mean anything, given to what someone may feel about the night time. The night to me is a very peaceful time, when to someone else, may be scary. The font is simple, so it may mean that the book has to do with something simple, but the letters are capitalized, so the book could also deal with something big. The man in the picture is almost all black, and I can barely see his face. Maybe the black shows the darkness of where ever the book takes place, or if he is in fact the bad guy in the story. Maybe the black shows blending in with the crowd, just like how he is the same color as the fence, as if he was a part of it. EL
